QUESTION:

Hi Chuck,

Have the 36-A checked for my golf cart and will be ordering soon. Thanks for the info. you'd sent.

Next question - I am installing a 24 volt, solar powered system utilizing a 4024 inverter. Intially, I will have 6 ea., 180 watt solar panels and will be utilizing 8 ea., Trojan, 6 volt batteries set in series to maintain a 24 volt output. I don't have the wiring diagram on how they will be wired but it appears that I will have 2 sets of 4 batteries each, wired in series to produce the desired voltage. Would that be your take on that?

If this is the case, would I need 2 ea., 12/24C units to make this system work?

Thanks,

D__ M__

ANSWER:

Dear D__,

Good to hear from you again.

Your battery bank is called series-parallel.  You will have two sets of four batteries in series to 24 Volts.  Then the two sets of series connected batteries are connected in parallel to increase the amps and amp hour capacity.

You can use just one BLS-12/24-C for the entire bank.  The only restriction is that the BLS-12/24-C cannot take more than 35 Volts during charging.  If your solar panels put out more than 35 Volts, you may be able to use a BLS-36-A.  Let me know if you need it and I will check to see that a BLS-36-A will work at 24 volts.  I don't remember now.

Sincerely,
Chuck Van Breemen
